Some fellow travellers and lovers of Iceland

Iceland has inspired the artistic nature of it’s inhabitants and others drawn to its seas and shores over the years. The list of visitors and artists local or from further afield include irish priests, vikings, fishermen, poets, novelists, musicians, painters, photographers and travellers like me

Well the priests are contested due to lack of archaeological evidence, but their presence before the Norse settlers is documented in the Book of the Icelanders (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papar)

The Norse story is documented over and over in the Íslendingasögur (Sagas of the Icelanders), Íslendingabók (Book of the Icelanders), Landnámabók (Icelandic book of settlements) amongst a few sources

Genetic evidence seems to back up stories in the sagas of women or slaves raided from other Atlantic lands (http://www.mnh.si.edu/vikings/voyage/subset/iceland/genetics.html)

Icelandic victory in the Cod Wars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cod_Wars)

It is almost guaranteed that my pictures will be nowhere near as good as these (http://www.demilked.com/nordic-landscape-nature-photography-iceland/)

Music of the Icelanders – inspired by the success of the Sugarcubes, Björk and Sigur Rós (http://www.buzzfeed.com/dray/10-bands-from-iceland-that-you-should-care-about-4666#.ogPavzzE)
